What Sets Cabinet Refacing Pros from the Competition?
We don’t just paint cabinets, we refinish them with a traditional application but using the most advanced and the best products for cabinet refinishing. Our ways of refinishing cabinets are different than what our competition offers and our final finish surpasses our competition offerings.
Kitchen Cabinet Refinishing: Enamel vs Lacquer Finishes
Please notice the difference in the process of refinishing cabinets and materials used by Cabinet Refacing Pros and our competition.
Almost all our competition uses acetone-based or water-based tinted lacquers to spray color and protection. These products have very thin and can be applied in only a thin layer, otherwise, they get runs and crack, they are easy to scratch, not durable, and start deteriorating in a very short time, especially in areas exposed to moisture, grease, sun, and human sweat. When wood expands and contracts due to air humidity changes, lacquer finishes start cracking when door pieces join or on panels. Also, lacquer-based finishes do not prevent dark colors of previous finish, either paint or stain, from bleeding through.
We refinish our cabinets in a traditional way using stain blocking, oil-based or shellac-based, primer, and urethane fortified enamel. After proper preparation: cleaning, caulking, patching, and sanding, we apply 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of enamel. Thus, our finishes are smooth, washable, durable, lasting, and surpass our competition finishes.
Lacquer finishes, if damaged, require hiring a professional finisher and redoing the entire door or panel. Enamels, on the other hand, can be easily applied with a roller and brush, so touch-ups, when necessary, can be done by anybody without noticing the difference between old and new finish.
Please notice that 1 layer of lacquer has 1 mil thickness, 1 layer of primer, and enamel 1.5 mils, thus, our finishes have a minimum 6 mils thickness. Compare this with our competition.
Kitchen Cabinets Refacing - New Doors and Drawer Fronts
Please notice the difference in the process of cabinet re-facing and the materials we use and our competition.
For refacing, almost all our competition finishes components with acetone-based tinted liquid stains to spray color and protect it with only 1-2 coats of either acetone or water-based lacquer.
We use for refacing domestic and solid hardwood doors and drawer fronts and finish our cabinets with stain-blocking primer and 2 coats of enamel fortified with urethane. Then, we refinish the frame in the same color and sheen.
For country-style application, we apply distress and glazing as requested and approved by the customer. Our finishes are smooth, washable, durable, and lasting and withstand heavy use in the kitchen or bathroom.
For stained finishes, we apply 2 coats of oil-based and urethane enriched gel-stain and protected finish with polyurethane for a smooth, washable, durable, and lasting finish.
1 coat of lacquer has 1mil, 1 coat of primer, paint or gel-stain 1.5 mils, polyurethane 2 mils. Thus, our competition finishes are 2 mils thick while our minimum 6 mils thick.
We install optional new finished maple, dovetail drawer boxes, soft-close hinges, and full-extension drawer glides, new crown molding, new baseboard, new scribe molding, and base-shoe, lazy Susan, etc. Pulls or knobs installation is included in the estimate if supplied by the owner before finishing the job.
