PAINTED KITCHEN CABINETS

Painted cabinets in a wide range of colors from white to black are very trendy these days, with the most popular earth tones, from light to medium dark. Most contractors use tinted lacquer for refinish cabinets with solid color, painted application, with usually two coats.

Lacquers can only be applied by spraying and in very thin coats, otherwise they crack and start chipping off immediately. They also cannot be touched up in any easy way as by roller or brush. The entire door has to be sprayed again with the same formula and even though there is no guarantee for matching remaining cabinets since lacquers yellow over the time due to oxidation process.

2 coats of lacquer deliver 2 x 1mil = 4 mil thick finish.

The best way of refinishing cabinets is by using industrial strength enamels and if properly applied, 2 coats of bonding and stain blocking primer and 2 coats of industrial strength enamel, it brings the final finish to 4 x 1.5 mil = 6 mil thick finish.
